What is a Term?
"Terms" in Scan2Order refers to all the different variations of an Attribute. This means that Terms cannot function by themselves but necessarily correspond to an Attribute. In order to understand this, let's study the examples we saw in the Attributes section:
· So, a pizza has “Size” as its Attribute and "6 slices", "8 slices", etc. as the Terms of this Attribute. So, we have: Attribute = “Size”, Terms = "6 slices", "8 slices", etc.
· A beer has “Alcohol Content” as its Attribute and the Terms of that Attribute are "8% vol", "12.5% vol", etc. So, we have: Attribute = “Alcohol Content”, Terms = "8% vol", "12.5% vol", etc.
· A soft drink has “Size in ml” as its Attribute and the corresponding Terms of this Attribute are "250ml", "500ml", "1L", etc. So, we have: Attribute = “Size in ml”, Terms = "250ml", "500ml", "1L", etc.
To recap, the two most important things that you must remember about Terms are:
· Each "Term" necessarily corresponds to an Attribute and each Term simply denotes a variant of an Attribute.
· Each Attribute can have multiple Terms.
